io3D printer constructs 10 buildings in one day from recycled materials. The 3D printers could someday be used to build skyscrapers from the recycled materials of other buildings.Computerworld - A Chinese company has become the first to construct multiple buildings using 3D printers that extrude recycled building materials at breakneck speed.Using four huge 3D printers, Yingchuang New Materials Inc. was able to print the shells of 10 one-room structures in 24 hours and at a cost of only about $5,000 per building. The buildings had to harden at the factory and then be transported and assembled on site. The printers, supplied by WinSun Decoration Design Engineering, are 20 feet tall, 33 feet wide and 132 feet long. Like their desktop counterparts, the construction-grade WinSun 3D printers use a fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology to deposit materials one layer at a time in a process that's similar to squeezing frosting from a pastry bag. Non-IBM Power8 servers to appear early next year Servers and components are under development as part of third-party licensing deals  The first third-party servers licensed to use IBM's Power architecture will be on the market early next year. IBM last year started licensing the architecture so other companies could build Power servers, chips and components. The first third-party Power servers will be for cloud and high-end applications, said Ken King, general manager, OpenPower alliances at IBM's Systems and Technology Group. Ultimately, low-end servers could use Power chips, but that's for server makers to decide, King said. Derivative Power8 chips being designed outside IBM could be used in third-party servers, King said. IBM's Power hardware has been used in the Linux-based Watson supercomputer, which beat humans in the TV quiz show "Jeopardy." But IBM's Power server shipments have declined in recent years as buyers move to commodity hardwa

Five takeaways from the Apple earnings call

Five takeaways from the Apple earnings call Apple's doing great in China, not so well in tablets, and R&D spending is increasing IDG News Service -  Apple reported its quarterly numbers on Tuesday, a mixed bag that saw profits rise up but sales fall short of the mark. Here are five takeaways from the earnings call that followed. Apple's pouring more money into R&D Apple has spent US$3.3 billion in the past nine months on research and development. That's 3.1 percent of revenue, putting it on course to beat its R&D spending for the past several years. The last time spending reached that level was 2009, and it could still go higher yet. In the April-to-June quarter, R&D spending was 4.3 percent of revenue, a level not reached since before the iPhone launch. What's driving the spending? Only Apple knows, but a good guess would be the iPhone, which will reportedly soon see a major overhaul, and Apple's much-rumored wearable. It's worth notin

Windows upgrades, Chromebooks slow PC market bleeding in Q2

Windows upgrades, Chromebooks slow PC market bleeding in Q2 The market reached its healthiest point in two years, but is still in decline, IDC finds  Upgrades from Windows XP PCs to newer computers during the second quarter perked up the PC market, which inched closer to positive quarterly shipment growth. PC shipments worldwide totaled 74.4 million in the second quarter, declining 1.7 percent compared to the same quarter a year ago, research firm IDC said Wednesday. IDC in May predicted a decline of 7.1 percent for the second quarter. The results were surprising considering the research firm had predicted declines or flat shipments until 2018, said Jay Chou, senior research analyst at IDC. "With the fact that we're seeing a good second quarter, that obviously means we're going to revise our short-term outlook," Chou said. Businesses and consumers are showing more interest in buying PCs, but a few quarters of strong shipment numbers are needed to concl

Basic Computer HardwareQuestions,

Motherboard is the central printed circuit board (PCB) in many modern computers and holds many of the crucial components of the system, while providing connectors for other peripherals. The motherboard is sometimes alternatively known as the main board, system board, so start learning for the job interview questions related to the Computer Motherboard, 1.How clear password in  bios ?  To clear Computer Motherboard CMOS password we will do these steps. Since CMOS is a special chip with its own battery, the best way to clear out a CMOS chip is to disconnect it from its power supply.,To clear the CMOS password you just remove the CMOS Battery or else you can also use a jumper settings.  When were OSI model developed and why its standard called 802.XX and so on? Motherboard Troubleshooting

Image
A computer motherboard is one of the most hardest pieces of hardware to troubleshoot, because the symptoms are too similar to other pieces, the best way to make sure the motherboard or mobo is failing is to boot your computer with just crucial components connected (CPU, RAM, and motherboard), and see what happens, if it displays the same symptoms, then you have 3 suspects. If the problem is when booting Windows, then you will have to include the hard drive, but the hard drive troubleshooting symptoms are much different from that of a motherboard, so don't worry about this, just install it if your computer seems to pass the initial boot.Remember that troubleshooting your computer it's just like playing the game "Clue" you need to eliminate the suspects in order to find the culprit. Keep in mind that it's very rare for a motherboard to fail especially if it's a good motherboard, so try every troubleshooting available.  Reasons a motherboard fails

Firewalls,how the work Firewalls

Image
Firewalls, how the work Firewalls,Firewalls, how the work Firewalls, Today computing, a firewall is a piece of hardware and/or software which functions in a networked environment to prevent some communications forbidden by the security policy, analogous to the function of firewalls in building construction.A firewall has the basic task of controlling traffic between different zones of trust. Typical zones of trust include the Internet (a zone with no trust) and an internal network (a zone with high trust). The ultimate goal is to provide controlled connectivity between zones of differing trust levels through the enforcement of a security policy and connectivity model based on the least privilege principle. There are three basic types of firewalls depending on.whether the cation is being done between a single node and the network, or between two or more networkswhether the communication is intercepted at the network layer, or at the application layerwhether the communication

Expand the size of C: Drive without loosing data -Windows

As an 18Networking-Solutions, we have the need from time to time to extend system partition (extend C drive) because we did not perform the capacity analysis correctly and failed to choose the correct size for system partition that can support future growth.Another reason we encounter from time to time as an 18Networking-Solutions, is with our old servers, they have a very small hard disk size, and the servers are too old to be upgraded, besides they are out of life, and has to be decommissioned, but we need the software and services that run on it.So, what we always do is to virtualize the server and move it to a hypervisor like VMWare or Hyper-V, then we can extend the hard disk size to any size we need. But, the problem we face is that all the new space we added is unallocated and need to be merged with C drive, but we can't do this with Windows built in tools like diskpart, in the older Windows versions, like Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, …etcWe need a third party tool; to pe
